COMPREHENSIVE UPDATES OF NIGERIA GENERAL ELECTION

ENUGU
The report reaching us from many polling units in Enugu state of Nigeria shows that the voting process was a huge success. some have already concluded voting and the votes are now counted.

PORTHARCOURT
Though the voting process was successful in many of the polling units but there was a case of snatching of the ballot box in some polling units.

ANAMBRA NORTH SENATORIAL ZONE
The card reader frustrated the anxiousness of many eligible voters to exercise their franchise.

LAGOS STATE
Lagosians stood calmly even as there was a rainfall to make sure they exercise their franchise. This is a very good news for our democracy.

OUR OBSERVATION
THE CARD READERS FAILED IN MOST OF THE POLLING UNITS
Had it not because of the order from INEC for the manual accreditation system to be used many of Nigeria electorates would have been disenfranchised so INEC should work on the card reader so that the upcoming governorship elections which comes up on 11th of April 2015.

THE ELECTION WAS PEACEFUL WITH ONLY FEW CASES OF VIOLENCE
Contrary to what the people were thinking in the sense that the election might be characterized by violence, the election was very peaceful and the Nigeria electorates comport themselves in an orderly and matured manner. Who ever thinks Nigeria will not succeed might be thinking about another country not Nigeria because with the way Nigerians replied to the general election i think we have have grown in terms of democratic maturity.

BRIEF HISTORY OF NIGERIA'S LEADERSHIP SINCE INDEPENDENCE

WRITTEN BY: NWOKOYE EMMANUEL

The most populous black nation in the world was liberated from the shackles of colonialism in the year 1960, that year Dr Nnnamdi Azikiwe who was a famous and leading nationalist and the founder of west African pilot newspaper became the first ceremonial president of Nigeria while Alhaji Tafawa Belewa was the prime minister due to the fact that at that time Nigeria practiced parliamentary system of government as they imitated from our colonialist.
The Government of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Tafawa BElewa was truncated on the 15th of January 1966 by the military, that was the first time the karki men came into Nigeria's political scene. That coup was bloody and people like the prime minster Tafawa Belewa, federal minister of finance Okotie eboh was killed. General Umunnakwe Thmpson Agui Ilonsi became the first military head of state. With a south easterner becoming the head of state and prominent politicians from the east not killed in the coup that ushered in first military government in Nigeria, the northerners saw it as a coup that was planned by the Igbos so the northerners in the military started working on how to conduct a coup that will remove the military head of state.
Barely three months after Agui Ironsi ascended the throne, another coup was carried out and Agui Ironsi was killed and this time it was carried out by the northerners and it saw the emergence of Yakubu Gowon as the military head of state. Gowon who was only 27 years then have to rise from a lower rank to a general in a matter of some months to assume the most exalted seat of the nation, which high ranking military officers as of then like Odumegwu Chukwuemeka Ojukwu disagreed with and refused to recognize Gowon as the military head of state which was among the things that led to the the Nigeria civil war of 1967-1970. Gowon was on seat for nine good years and in 1966 another bloodless coup was carried out which saw the emergence of Murtala Mohammed as the Nigeria head of state. Murtala Mohammed did not last so long as he was assassinated while going to the mosque by Buka Suka Dimka and his co. The coup was unsuccessful and therefore Murtala's second in command Olusegun Obasanjo have to take over.
When Olusegun Obasanjo took over, he started working on the promises of his predecessor which is  is returning of Nigeria to democratic rule. He set up a committee that will draft a constitution for Nigeria and the committee came up with a presidential system of government abandoning the parliamentary system which we inherited by our colonial masters. Elections were conducted in 1979 and Alhaji Shehu Shagari was elected as the first executive president of Nigeria.
Four years after Shegari's administration came into existence, the administration was removed while they were preparing for another election by a bloodless coup and General Mohammadu Buhari became the head of state and the commander in chief of the armed forces. He did not stay long because another coup was carried out in 1985 and Ibrahim Badmosi Babangida became the new head of state. Babangida also promised Nigerians that he is going to return the leadership of the country to the hands of the civilians and he worked  towards it. in 1992 a general election which is today adjudged the most free and fair election was conducted which saw the emergence of M.K.O Abiola as the winner of the election but lo and behold the election was annulled. Ernest Shonekan became the interim head of state, and he was only there just for three months before another bloodless coup was carried out and Sani Abacha became the new head of state.
Sani Abacha was the head of state till the cold hands of death lay hands on him on June eight and Abdulsalami Abubakar took over with a promise that he is going to hand over power to the civilians, that promise was fulfilled as a general election was conducted in 1999, and that saw the emergence of one time head of state Olusegun Obasanjo as the president of Nigeria. Obasanjo was the president of Nigeria for eight years after completing a two tenure which is made up  of four years each. Another general election was held in 2007 which saw the emergence of Late president Umaru Musa Yar Adua and for the first time in the history of Nigeria there was a smooth transition form one civilian Government to another. Unfortunately for Umaru Musa Yaradua, he did not live to see the end of his tenure as the cold hand of death lay hands on him on the 5th day of march 2009 and the vice president of Nigeria Goodluck Ebere Jonathan have to take over as the president of Nigeria according to the stipulations of the constitution of federal republic of Nigeria. Two years after he took over power, another general election was conducted and Goodluck Jonathan won and became the first president ever to be produced by the minority south south geo political zone. Goodluck Jonathan is on seat till today which is a historic day in our life as a nation when another general election that will determine whom the leader of this great nation will be. As we we watch and discharge our civic responsibility which is voting credible leaders that will pioneer the affairs of this great country let us pray that God will be with us. May GOD bless the federal republic of Nigeria.

WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN AS THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA?

A lot has been said and a lot has been heard, a lot of hate speeches and lots of political battle, by tomorrows afternoon we will know who has the mandate to pioneer the affairs of largest black nation in the world.
Who ever that will emerge as the winner of today's election will be determined by your votes. As we go to the polls today let us not forget to consult God who is the chief King maker to come and have his way in Nigeria. OPEN LETTER TO ALL NIGERIANS CONCERNING THE UPCOMING GENERAL ELECTIONS.

Greetings my fellow Nigerians who live at home and abroad. I am a young Nigeria who is concern about things that happens in this country. For almost six months now the Nigeria’s political landscape has been very busy with the politician engaging in different activities to sell their manifestos to the good people of Nigeria. The struggle for who will occupy the number seat in the country narrowed down to two strong political party, the people’s Democratic Party and the all progressive congress.
On the 28th day of March 2015 Nigerians will be going again to the polls to elect the leaders who are going to pioneer the affairs of the state for the next four years. As you prepare to discharge your civic responsibility and create a better future for yourself and the generations unborn by voting in credible leaders who will be humble enough and have the sympathy to give a credible representation back to the electorates who have sacrificed to stand under the scorching sun to give them a the mandate that took them to the positions they occupy. Please Nigerians I will like you to have an overall scrutiny and give a second taught before casting your votes, don’t cast your votes out of desperation. Politics has been the foremost problem that Nigeria have and it is still eating deep into the fabric of our national growth. We all know that the reason why most of the politician do everything possible which sometimes might even warrant the shedding of innocent blood is because the Nigeria’s political environment is very lucrative. You as a Nigeria has the power to change the system, your vote will go a long way to bring a change in our country. Just take a look at some countries which  were once a third world country like us in the likes of China, India, today they are far much ahead of us because corruption and bad leadership.
Great people of Nigerians are we still going to seat and watch just a few bad individuals destroy our future and the future of our great country? Are we going to sacrifice our happiness in the future just because of a bag of rice? How many bag of rice will they have to give us in a year for us to be satisfied?  With the way people go about singing aloud and praising one candidate or the other not because that candidate has what it takes to save them from the hand of poverty, lack of infrastructure and social amenities but because they share them money and gifts I begin to wonder what manner of  electorates they are.
Election time is here again, a lot of Abuja based politicians are now finding their way back to their constituencies and senatorial zones which they have abandoned ever since they ascended the exalted seat. They are coming back to seek vote from people whom they have abandoned in the past four years. Now they know how important you are to them, but the thing that appalls me is that with few money they will load themselves with which is just a small percentage of the money they have looted from the national treasury, the same people who were neglected and abandoned will come singing and clapping for them just to take home with them an amount which is very small to take care of their daily needs. That is exactly why someone will claim that he is a senator and after four years he would end of not attracting a single project to his senatorial zones and constituencies not to talk of sponsoring a single bill that will bring a relieve to his people. They know that irrespective of whatever happens that whenever they comes home with some fresh currency that his past sins will be forgiven immediately. With the way people complain that the president has not done well, then I begin to ask if the president has indeed not done well what are the people who are elected to represent you in the parliament doing to make sure that the president is hold accountable to discharge his constitutional duties.
The next time you want to talk about corruption don’t just call only the president. Remember that if at all the parliamentarians are doing their job efficiently and have decided not to be corrupt  I don’t see the reason why they will not question or even use their constitutional power to  stop the president from being corrupt, but the truth is that they are all birds of the same feather. In every state in Nigeria we have a local government chairman, who is the one that is closest to the people, we also have a member representing constituencies in the federal House of Representatives and house of assembly, and we also have the senator representing a senatorial zone and then the governor. If all these leaders in this hierarchical order are truly discharging their constitutional responsibility without any compromise I bet you that Nigerians will always smile because they are truly reaping the dividends of democracy, but lo and behold all of them are thieves who are looking for one treasury or the other to loot and have their way.
The fundamental responsibility of a representative or a parliamentarians is to represent the common interest of the people in the national or state houses of assembly. That means they are the once who knows you and knows what you want and also should raise their voice so that the federal or state government can come to your help. The president or the governor cannot know exactly what you want without your representatives bringing it to their notice, have you seen the reason while you should know the caliber of people you are voting to represent you in the national and state assembly or even to take the executive responsibility as your governor or the president.
To give a quality representation every representative or even the ones in the executive arm should bring themselves so low to hear the voice of the dying masses and immediately work on alleviating their sufferings. At least at the end of every month the youth, the market women, the representatives of each town and village should be meeting with their representative in the parliament to rub minds together to know what the pressing problems are and in turn lay it down on the floor of the parliament or work immediately on it for the people in the executive arm. Do you know that your representative should have solved the problem of unemployment in your constituency by simply asking the youths who want to go into business to come up with viable business plan and he or she will through his influence attract grants and loans to finance the startups or he or she can even work with international organization to employ or create a job opportunities for the teaming unemployed youth.
I believe now that you have seen the reason why I said that Nigerians should concentrate less on the president and work more on the politicians closer to them. Thank God that there are some states in Nigeria where credible leadership are obtainable, I will like the politician with a corrupt mindset to learn from theses politician that are laying the foundation for good leadership, transparency and accountability. It is not how rich you are nor how powerful or influential you are but how many lives have you impacted? How many people can testify that you are the one who saved them from the hand of economic frustration and poverty?
My fellow Nigerians as we draw closer to a day when we are going to decide how our future will be, let us be wise and vote credibly, don’t vote because a politician is your brother but vote because he or she has what it takes to bring change to the society. For the youth whom they will be trying to use to achieve their heinous agenda by all means, I want to remind you that their own children might be enjoying themselves in places Like London, US and other great places and you are here trying to defend a man who hates you from the depth of your heart just because of some token which you are going to go home with. The money will soon end but the suffering which you have brought upon yourself for not voting a credible leader will not end.
Therefore, my fellow Nigerian as we troop out to the polls to decide our future let us vote sincerely and be always ready to defend our democracy, let us be law abiding and allow peace to reign and in all let us call on God the creator of heaven and earth to help us to elect credible leaders who are going to give us an impressive representation.

BY THE GREEN WHITE POLITICAL GOSSIPERS

The minister of finance and the coordinating minister of the economy has assured Nigerians that Nigeria will come out of the economic problems facing it. She said this this morning when she was interviewed in radio Nigeria during the network news. She said that irrespective of the economic problems which includes the declining price of the oil in the market which has affected revenue generation, that Nigeria still has a bright future ahead of it. She also said that irrespective of the decline in the oil price that the inflation rate is single digit.
This is coming from the minister in a time when Nigeria is facing crucial economic problems  which many experts said it is due to our mono economic structure, and also a time that Nigeria is going to the polls to elect its leaders for the next four years. She also gave brief summary of the achievements of the present administration of president Goodluck Jonathan in agriculture, housing, trading, commerce and industry.

The suicide bombers, who were believed to be on a suicide mission to Maiduguri’s Monday Market, when the IEDs blew them apart in Auno town while waiting for a bus.
.
An eyewitness, Gana Bukar, who explained that the incident occurred at about 2pm on Sunday, said the bombs  scattered the bodies of the suicide bombers, while seven other persons were injured and were rushed to Maiduguri General Hospital for treatment.
He said, “The suicide bombers were said to have been brought from Damaturu by one suspected Boko Haram terrorist, who dropped them in Jajana and told them to take a bus to the next town. On reaching Auno, they thought it was Maiduguri and they start asking about Maiduguri Monday Market.
“We were told that their master dropped them in Jakana because he knew that it would be very difficult for them to beat security checkpoints and enter Maiduguri.”
A taxi driver, Mallam Mohammdu Abor, who claimed that drove through Auno on Sunday afternoon, told journalists that he saw the mangled bodies of the suicide bombers by the roadside.
He said the people of the town were standing at a distance from the bodies as they were apprehensive that they might still have undetonated explosives on them.
Speaking on the matter, the spokesman for the youth vigilance group in Borno State, Jibrin Gunda, said he was informed about the incident, adding that his men had intensified their stop-and-search mission.

OBASANJO BEGS COURT TO LIFT ORDER ON BIOGRAPHY

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday urged a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, Abuja, to set aside its order directing security operatives to confiscate his autobiography, ‘My Watch’, about three months ago.
‎Before Justice Valentine Ashi made the order on December 10, 2014,  the court had earlier  on December 5, 2014, restrained Obasanjo from going ahead with the publication of the book pending the determination of the N20bn libel suit instituted against him by a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Buruji Kashamu‎.
‎But Obasanjo went ahead to present the book to the public on December 9, 2014 in Lagos, a development which made the judge to hold the former president in contempt of court and ordered security agencies to confiscate the books anywhere they were found in the country.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Obasanjo, through his lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), urged Justice Ashi to set aside the December 10, 2014 order,  promising the court that would no longer pursue the appeal against the court order.
“The appeal has not been entered. As long as the appeal has not been entered, we are not before the Court of Appeal, we are before Your Lordship,” Agabi said when Justice Ashi insisted that a notice of discontinuance ‎of the appeal ought to have been filed before asking for the court’s order to be set aside.
“It will be ridiculous to ask me to do what the Court of Appeal is asked to do,” the judge had said.
But Agabi urged the court t‎o set aside the order as it was wrongly made.
He said, “The single ground of this application is that in a case of libel, an interlocutory injunction does not lie to restrain publication in the face of a defendant pleading justification.
“The defendant (Obasanjo) is pleading justification. In paragraph 24 of our counter-affidavit, the defendant said his claim about the plaintiff is correct, true and justified from records available in the federal court of the United States.”
He said the court had “issued without jurisdiction,” adding, “The moment an interlocutory is granted, the issue is prejudiced, fair hearing is prejudiced.”
He also argued that the court could only validly bar publication in a libel suit after the case of libel was proven against the defendant.
But Kashamu’s counsel, Mr. Alex Izinyon II, urged the court to dismiss Obasanjo’s application, seeking to set aside the December 10, 2014 order.
He said the order, having been enforced by being served on the police, Nigeria Custom Service and other security agencies, the application had lost relevance.
He told the court that Customs authorities had recently requested a copy of the order when its men intercepted a container-load of the book.
The judge adjourned till March 30 for ruling on Obasanjo’s application.
